Madison, Wisconsin

Recently while traveling we stopped over in Madison, Wisconsin.  We had not made hotel reservations ahead of time so we decided to stay in the downtown area.  After a quick review of the available options we decided on the Holiday Inn Express located across the street from the Wisconsin state capitol building.  The hotel was very busy but they did have rooms available.  The one thing we did not care for at this hotel was the fact that you had to use their valet service to park and retrieve your car.  This was inconvenient.  We like to have quick access to our vehicle at all times and did not like having to go through a third party to access our car and it's contents.  I am guessing this was the case because of the limited space due it's location to the state capitol.  The hotel room itself was adequate but there was excessive noise coming from the traffic in the hallways.  The nice thing about this hotel was it's proximity to the state capitol square area.  There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance.  We chose to eat at the "Old Fashioned"  The Old Fashioned is a casual style dining experience.  Their slogan is the "King of Wisconsin"  They had a great selection of local Wisconsin beer and cheese which we enjoyed thoroughly.
